Conrad: I Won't Rehire McKenzie Mattingly

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The LMPD officer indicted for killing a drug suspect will not be rehired by the department.

McKenzie Mattingly shot 19 year old Michael Newby during an undercover drug bust in 2004. Mattingly was acquitted of a murder charge. He left the department and later worked at the Bardstown Police Department.

Mattingly applied to rejoin LMPD in March of this year, quietly going through the process until his application came to light last month.

LMPD Chief Steve Conrad says Mattingly violated policy during the Newby incident and that he will "never consider hiring Mattingly for any position."
