(Louisville,KY) - Louisville health officials say they've recorded the first death caused by the West Nile virus this year. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Officials are monitoring a second case.

Last year, there were four cases reported but no one died.

Less than one-percent of persons infected with West Nile develop a serious illness, such as meningitis.

Louisville has sprayed in areas where mosquitoes that carry the disease are prevalent.
