STEP ONE, CPAC POLL. CHECK. Rand Paul won the CPAC Presidential poll last week, and it has been a pretty good indicator of who will be the candidate lately. What does this mean long term? It could be good for fundraising, but also puts a huge target on him. Let's hope he doesn't manage to snatch defeat from victory?
SPEAKING OF RAND PAUL There seems to a be fight abrewing between the neocon faction of the GOP and the growing, imho, faction who would rather see a more restrained foreign policy. Bill Kristol thinks Rand Paul is running to the Left of Barack Obama. Which proves to me that Bill Kristol simply isn't paying attention to any of the words that come out of Rand Paul's mouth.
WE'RE SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT RACE, RIGHT? You should read this article by a white man in Philly, who had the nerve to talk to other white people about race in Philly. How they try to be extra solicitous and friendly to black people in an effort to overcome the white guilt Americans carry. I think many of you will see yourself in some of the people interviewed. But of course, it has caused a firestorm in Philadelphia. The Mayor is calling for a "rebuke" of the magazine for having the nerve to publish a story about how white people struggle with race relations.
SO WHAT'S THAT GALLBLADDER GONNA RUN ME, DOC? Read this article. Read it and then tell me who market forces can't play a role in bringing down healthcare costs. This group actually has upfront, internet pricing for services. And it's having an impact on OTHER groups in the area. And bringing down costs for those who chose to participate. And click on the actual website to see the pricing. When my ex-husband had an MCL repair knee surgery 15 years ago, the SURGEONS bill was $13,000. How can this not be the wave of the future? We will always need to make accomodations for an emergency situation, but why can't the rest of it be like this?
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE YOUR 401k? You know we keep talking about what's happening in Greece as a warning about what could happen here. Now Cyprus is taxing bank deposits. That means the money IN THE BANKS is being seized by the government under the guise of TAXES. Now, think about our current leadership. Is there anything that makes you think that if the Democrats took control of the House, they would not try to do something similar? All that 401k money, sitting out there "untaxed" would certainly seem right for the pickings, don't you think? I don't even need my tinfoil hat here. Because it would be sold to the public as "those GREEDY rich people have been padding their retirements UNTAXED and THAT'S NOT FAIR." Please convince me it wouldn't be.
