42 ETHICS VIOLATIONS Even when he screws up, at least he's setting records. I guess. One thing that strikes me about the Richie Farmer story is how NO ONE raised a question while he was in office. NO ONE. And after working briefly at the state Capitol in Florida, I know that state workers talk. A lot. The gossip had to be flying about these egregious abuses of power and yet, no one did a thing. Shameful. Just shameful. And apparently ethics were not a big topic of conversation in the Farmer household, as he's taking his sister down with him.
WHY IS TICKET SCALPING ILLEGAL? Undercover officers will bo on the lookout for ticket scalpers in Lexington for the NCAA tournament. Why is this illegal? And why can StubHub and other online outlets charge exorbitant prices and not face the same charges? Discuss.
DEFINE SECURE I'm not sure what to think of Rand Paul's latest stance on immigration. A lot of Republicans are seeing the demographic writing on the wall and advocating for some sort of legality for illegals. And one thing I keep seeing is that all want "border security" first. Okay, I'm game. Define what a "secure" border is please. Is it 100k illegals a year? Is it 50k illegals a year? Is it 10k illegals crossing the border a year? Simply define it and then we can move forward. But for the first time in my fanship of Rand Paul, this very much feels like a pander. And I do not like pandering.
THAT SODA WILL FLAT OUT KILL YOU At least that's what a team of Harvard researchers would have you believe. That's right, soda will make you die. Because I'm sure the otherwise healthy people that had no other bad habits would have lived forever otherwise. The scary part is this is the kind of thing that do gooders will use to create nonsensical legislation that will end up costing me money somehow and do nothing to reduce deaths. Because are going to die. That I know for sure.
FACEBOOK AND DEATH HAVE A STRANGE RELATIONSHIP That was a post on a good friend's page recently. She is my friend and also the friend of my friend who passed away recently. His death was not unexpected, as he had been battling cancer, but still shocking and unnerving, as he has been my friend for over 20 years and was still a young man. I found great solace in visiting his facebook page and reading the outpouring of love and well wishes from others, many of whom I did not know. I stalked his page nightly, looking at pictures and videos people had uploaded, laughing at funny stories and just remembering what a wonderful human being he was. And then one day it was gone. Taken down, at his pre-death request, by one of his dearest friends. He had very good reasons for wanting it gone, not wanting to live on in cyberspace. However it left me bereft and deeply saddened. Why am I telling you this? Just to say, if you die, don't have someone take down your Facebook page. It became an online gathering place for those who loved him. Don't underestimate how wonderful that can be. I've arranged for my friends to keep mine up for a year (assuming we still have such things as facebook when I'm old and gray) and THEN take it down. Just food for thought.
I WAS WRONG A month or so ago, I asked a caller (I don't remember why this came up) if they had heard anything about the Fukushima disaster lately. When he replied no, I said, that's because nothing really bad had happened there, and things were contained. I was wrong. Radiated fish are a problem.
HOLY COW, UK I think it's best that we say no more about the NIT.
SOME THINK THE WAR NEVER ENDED and the payments to the families of CIVIL WAR families continue. As one who knows MANY vets who had to fight tooth and nail for disability benefits from the VA, I find it interesting that apparently heart disease and diabetes are "automatic" benefits. That is not what I have known to be true in the past. Anyone able to clear this up?
