BLUEGRASS POLITICS If you are glutton for punishment
SENATOR MARCO RUBIO TODAY AT 10:15 He's in town to speak for the McConnell Center. I don't have him for very long, and I've got some questions I'd like answered so here's hoping it's an action packed interview. Watch his speech at the McConnell Center streamed live starting at 4pm. Click here to do so.
BLUEGRASS MONDAY, SLIGHTLY INTERRUPTED Jim Waters is in at 10, will be interrupted by Marco Rubio, and then will resume afterwards. Luckily for me, he's flexible like that.
TOOTHLESS? OUCH. Does the C-J know that Dennis Horlander is a Democrat? Or that Greg Stumbo is a Democrat? Because this article is not flattering for either man. What I find annoying as all hell is that none of the lawmakers would offer any kind of opinion on whether or not Rep. Horlander is doing a good job. Now, one could infer that they might have been invoking the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything" attitude, but if taxpayer dollar are being squandered, I'd appreciate it if someone would speak up. You don't have to be nasty, but I think if there are legitimate concerns about this money, it is the responsibility of those in charge of it to point that out.
I DISAGREE WITH THE GOVERNOR ENTIRELY I've not talked much about this religious freedom bill because I wanted to see how things shook out. The Governor rightly expressed some concern about this bill being used to discriminate against people (although I'd like to know how this bill could prevent the implementation of Common Core standards) without anything to prevent it. I think religious freedom is one of the prime tenets of our nation, but it should not trump other rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It's tricky business to write legislation like this.***Update: Martin Cothran from the Family Foundation why this bill is not what it's being portrayed in the media. I'm now thinking this isn't the bogeyman I thought it might be. Check the end of the 9am podcast for more.
OH, THAT MONEY IN THE BANK? YES, WE'LL TAKE IT Cyprus is taking money. Lots of money. Any deposits over 100,000 Euros will be seized to save the Cypriot banking system. Wrap your head around that for a minute. And don't think it can't happen here with your 401k. That's what debt does for a nation.
YOU CAN'T STOP BIG GOVERNMENT So says Michael Bloomberg on his radio show. It's scary and all, but how are you going to stop it? Assault rifles would be a good start. I betcha they can shoot down drones. Of course, this is the man who thinks sometimes government DOES know best and we should just give up our rights to those who are smarter.
*This a complete lie. No one outside Fort Myers and FGCU grads had FGCU in their brackets.
