FINALLY, SOMETHING GOOD AT JCPS! Ford is partnering with JCPS to bring it's Ford Next Generation Learning initiative to the district. I am not sure, exactly, what this is, as the descriptions are all educationese gobbledy gook, but the Nashville school district has seen increases in graduation rates since they instituted the program. My only question...what took so long? It's not like Ford just got here. Just saying.
WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY An old blue law may be fading away as Metro Council is deciding to allow folks to have a drink on a Sunday morning starting at 10am. It passed the Public Safety Committe who rightly understands that the change will not affect most of us in any way shape or form.
RIP PAT SUMMERALL To the rest of the world, he was the Super Voice, but to me, he was the guy who used to give us silver dollars when we came to his house trick or treating for UNICEF when I was a kid. UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES ARE A REAL YOU-KNOW-WHAT When the Republicans took issue with some of the expanded provisions of the Violence Against Women Act, we were told they hated women. But if you look at the actual objections, many of them were about the unintended consequences of the bill. Much like this feminist lawyer and mother discovered the unintended consequences of Title IX. But only after her OWN son was falsely accused of improper sexual relations by an ex-girlfriend. This is precisely why we need to worry about unintended consequences.
HOW OUT OF TOUCH CAN YOU BE? As the Democrats parade about making demands on gun control, an overwhelming majority (how about 94%) don't think it's the most pressing problem our nation faces. What is? According to this Gallup poll, the economy tops the list.
IS FACEBOOK ACTUALLY RUDEBOOK? We are losing our manners as a society. The question is why? I have a theory, but many are bandying about the theory that it's because of social media. That's part of it. We shall discuss.
