INTERNET SALES TAX BILL IS A MESS There are bills that put cumbersome regulations on people and businesses, but this one takes the cake and will likely put a lot of internet entrepeneurs out of business. Which is what bricks and mortar stores would prefer. Read this for a simple breakdown of what's at stake.
WHO'S FAULT IS THIS? The blame game is running fast and furious through DC, as Republicans try to blame President Obama for not managing assets under the sequester. And of course, the White House is blaming Republicans for forcing through spending cuts that the American people are now being affected by in the form of flight delays. Who do you blame? Or do you even care if you're one of the millions of people not flying anytime soon?
ARE WE OFF TO THE RACE? Not the Derby, the 2014 Senate race. This article from the Herald-Leader says Alison Lundergan Grimes is considering running against Mitch McConnell. She's a tough candidate, I think. She better be. This is gonna be a tough race. Part of me thinks she is the sacrificial lamb the Democrats need so they don't let Mitch go unopposed. For all their talk of how beatable he is, no one seems to want to run against him. Those two things don't connect. And if she runs against Mitch and loses, she's young enough to come back and win her seat again and go forward to run for something else without too much damage. But she will be expected to disclose her ties to Shawn Reilly and Progress Kentucky. If the media in this state did it's job, they'd already be digging into that.
WHAT THE HECK IS THIS ABOUT? Senator Rand Paul stepped into it BAD yesterday with a comment about drones killing an armed robber coming out of a liquor store. Not to make excuses, but I think this is much ado about a poorly worded statement about technology and fighting crime. The rest of his comments are entirely consistent with previous positions. I believe he was trying to say that technology being used by law enforcement is interchangeable to some extent, not that he endorses using technology to eliminate lawbreakers without a trial. Not everyone says everything perfectly. But the Ron Paul supporters have flipped their lids.
DEFINE ENEMY COMBATANT This story creeps me out. We should not use a drone to kill criminals in the United States. We should try to capture them, try them and sentence them. If they engage in a shootout with police, I am still cautious about opening up a rain of hellfire missiles on them. Why? Because if we decide that it's okay to use drones on "enemy combatants" on American soil, even American citizens, then the only thing left to argue about is who is an "enemy combatant". Would Bill Ayres been considered an enemy combatant when he was trying to kill his fellow Americans with bombs? Would the leader of the Tea Party be considered an enemy combatant for standing up against big government? Just asking.
WANT TO KNOW WHY I OPPOSE THE IMMIGRATION BILL? Read this column from Michelle Malkin. It pretty much sums things up nicely. And no, I've not read the bill. That's what weekends are for.
