I'M A LITTLE TOO HAPPY ABOUT THIS RETIREMENT Rep. Carl Rollins is leaving the House to take a job at another government agency. Why am I so happy about this? Because he has been the road block to charter schools as chair of the Education Committee in the House. He simply would not allow charter school legislation out of his committee. He used his power to prevent a full discussion of charter schools in the House. Speaker Stumbo has said in the past that he is in favor of charter schools. We'll see if he appoints someone to chair that committee that will at least give the bill a fair hearing. Fingers crossed.
OH SHE'S RUNNING. Alison Lundergran Grimes is running. She may not have announced it yet, but she's been running to all kinds of meetings around the state talking about her successes in this last legislative session. In this audio, listen to the question Joe Arnold asks (GO JOE GO!) about whether or not she would join other high profile Democrats in condemning the way the tape was acquired. She glosses right over it and gives her talking point answers.
Apparently that didn't sit well with a reporter from Hazard either because he asked her again. Read what she said to him and wonder why she didn't say this the first time.
NO BRIDGE FOR YOU! If you're a dog, that is. Tired of cleaning up the messes made by our four legged friends, the Waterfront development Corp. has decided to ban fido from the Big Four bridge. Let's see if that actually stops the poop problem. My guess is no.
GUESS WHO GOT HER BOTTLE OF 20 YEAR OLD? Yesterday there was chaos at Party Mart and as me and 308 friends tried to win the chance to buy some Pappy Van Winkle's. I got the last bottle of 20 year old, as the 23 year old was already gone. But after seeing what people do for this bourbon, I think the 20 should be just fine. Woot!
GOOD GRIEF, THIS IS DEPRESSING Terry Boyd of InsiderLouisville.com does a great job outlining the litany of failures downtown development through the years. Very depressing. And not very bright and happy about the future.
