SHOULD WE INFLATE GRADES TO HELP GET SCHOLARSHIPS? Bullitt County is thinking about lowering the standard for an A, B, C and D grades so kids will qualify for more college money. This is not a good idea. Grade inflation simply creates a sense that kids are more qualifiied for college than they are. And all the money in the world for college means nothing if you can't do the work when you get there. Every school concerned about college readiness should use the grade scales used at colleges already. Including plus/minus. The way grades are calculated should remain the same, and you would still get a B- on your report card, but you won't get the full 3.0 for it. If we are shooting for college ready, let's shoot for college ready.
HERE'S HOPING THEY GET IGNORED The "tax reform" commission was nothing of the sort, it was a group of people trying to figure out how to raise more taxes to bring in more money to the state. They should have been called the Tax Increase commission. And now some of the members are all butt hurt because the tax increases haven't been put forth yet. Let me call them a a waaaahhhmbulance. I'd love to see real tax reform, but that's not what this group was tasked with.
THE MOST SHOCKING NEWS EVER. NOT. The Department of Justice didn't just spy on the AP. It followed, in pretty good detail, a Fox News Reporter. James Rosen was the lucky guy who was trying to report on North Korea, apparently to the dismay of the White House. So they tapped his phones and followed him movements using his key card. Kind creepy and big brother-ish, eh? Unless you're a die hard Obama fan, in which case, this is all lies.
AND THIS IS WHY I'M NOT TOO KEEN ON ARMING SYRIAN REBELS Because the leader of the strongest group has pledged allegiance to...wait for it....Al Qaeda! Awesome. Just awesome.
WHAT'S WORSE, MEASLES OR AUTISM? I know parents and children afflicted with autism who believe wholeheartedly that the MMR vaccine gave their children autism. They have evidence, both anecdotal and video that supports this supposition. It was enough to make me very cautious about vaccinating The Q,and truthfully, we didn't so much for her until after she hit the age of 3. I think we have too many vaccinations now. I think we give them too young. But I also think that to not take into consideration that your child CAN die from measles (yes, it's rare, but it happens) is naive. Make your own decisions, but keep in mind that the more people who don't vaccinate, these diseases do come back. As they have in the UK.
WHY I DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE EUROPE FYI, France just slipped back into recession officially, but I'm sure an income rate of 100% on some earners had nothing to do with it. Check that again: 100%. That means all of it. Every dime. But let's all try to be like Europe, k?
