LAGRANGE RAISES TAXES...BECAUSE OF THE CITY'S BAD DECISION MAKING The cute little city of LaGrange has decided to take 1% of income earned in the city. Why? Because they decided some time ago to build an industrial park using bond money, and now, no one is actually IN the industrial park. This is why economic development ideas by government usually suck. Because they aren't hedging their OWN money, so they do things that people with skin in the game won't do. And now the income earners in LaGrange get to pay for it.
MEET SCHMEAT I love a good burger. And steak. And pretty much any other part of the cow. But I can't see myself chowing down on schmeat just yet. Schmeat, for those of you stuck in the two days ago, is meat made in a laboratory from the stem cells of a cow. Even though the reviews weren't super positive ("it's close to meat" does not sound like a rousing endorsement to me) this is being heralded as the beginning of non-farming meat cultivation. For someone else. Just like I don't want pee teeth, I am not eating lab made meat.
AND HERE COMES YEMEN Y'all know I don't trust Yemen. But now we have a new front in the undeclared war on something. I would say War on Terror, but PrezBO declared that OVER in 2010. So one can only conclude that our Nobel Prize Winner is starting a new front on an undeclared war. Super.
IT'S A BLUEGRASS MONDAY WITH JIM WATERS AT 10AM We will discuss what happened at Fancy Farm Saturday and other things terribly wrong in the Commonwealth.
HE TOOK HIS MARBLES AND WENT HOME Fancy Farm took over St. Joe's Parish Saturday and it went as it always does. Interesting twist this year when McConnell and his supporters took their marbles and went home. The unintended consequence was the Matt Bevin as able to get his six minutes relatively unheckled. This is an event whose appeal is completely beyond me. I heard Chuck Todd this morning on MSNBC talking about how much loved this old school barnburner type of politics, but I didn't learn anything new. Alison Lundergan Grimes took the standard shots, but the passing a kidney stone was funny. Click the links to see the speeches in whole.
OUR EMBASSIES CLOSING IS NOT GOOD If there were a way to tell the rest of the world the United States is weak, this is a good one. I think it's fairly obvious that Al Qaeda didn't get the message that the War on Terror is over. This whole things leaves me unsettled and questioning the timing. Last week, CNN busts out with it's big scoop that the CIA was doing something in Benghazi it maybe shouldn't have been (what difference, at this point, does it make?) and two days later, we have the most significant chatter since 9/11 that closes down 19 embassies in hot spots around the world? Call me paranoid, but those two things hardly seem coincidental. If not a wag the dog, then it seems Al Qaeda IS emboldened after it's unanswered victory in Benghazi. They smell blood in the water and our POTUS is chumming. Benghazi happened over a year ago. You're telling me that NO additional security measures have been put in place in this embassies? That's incompetence.
SPELLING...SO OLD FASHIONED An idiotic person who is some sort of professor of something says kids don't need to learn how to spell because of texting and smartphones. Seriously. This is where we are headed.
HERE COMES THE BRIDE...SORRY WE CAN'T MAKE IT This is kind of interesting because we always hear so much about how much a wedding costs. But what about for the guests? I've always been able to swing most weddings, but a lot of times by staying a cheaper hotel then the "wedding" hotel. Have you missed someone's big day because you were broke?
DEMOCRATIC PIG MAYOR GOES TO REHAB In the ongoing Democratic War on Women, Bob Filner is testing the waters to see how rehab works to rehab his image. Question: do you think "intensive behavioral training" for two weeks is enough to change the image of a past middle age horndog who has no respect for the fairer sex?
THIS WOULD BE SO FUNNY IF THEIR STUPIDITY HADN'T RUINED IT FOR THE REST OF US TOO Public worker unions are all frosted about Obamacare. Yes, the bill they supported because their leadership neither read the bill nor has a basic understanding of math. Now they don't like it. Surprise! You shouldn't have taken Nancy Pelosi's word for it, you should've read it's various incarnations yourself, rubes.
THE TEA'S NOT AS WARM AS IT ONCE WAS If the Tea Party turns it's back on former darlings, they darlings have no one to blame but themselves. And the Tea Party has been about holding politicians accountable for their actions from the get go. So this makes perfect sense to me.
WHEN RAND PAUL QUESTIONED HILLARY CLINTON He asked about transferring weapons to Turkey. According to CNN yesterday, he was right with line of questioning. CIA agents were all over the ground in Benghazi and they are trying to cover it up. I went back and found the specific clip of Hillary Clinton, and to her credit, she punts the answer to "the agency that ran the annex", which we now know is the CIA. Watch the clip here:
The lefties mocked him for asking about Turkey. Idiots.
AND THEN THERE IS THE SHUTDOWN OF EMBASSIES THIS WEEKEND What the heck is going on when multiple embassies are shut down over the weekend in Islamic countries? Good thing the War on Terror is over, or I'd be worried. Thankfully, the POTUS strategy of butt kissing seems to be working. That is sarcasm.
WHAT DOES YOUR PHONE SAY ABOUT YOU? I love these kind of nonsense studies. I'm an Android user. So I better up my alcohol consumption.
INTERESTING TAKE ON RAND PAUL V. CHRIS CHRISTIE The back and forth between Rand Paul and Chris Christie seems to be over (for now) and this column makes some interesting points about what this tete a tete means for both as they aspire to be POTUS.
THAT'LL SHOW 'EM We are rapidly becoming Russia's b*tch. Seriously. Putin gives Snowden asylum, and instead of coming out right away and cancelling his trip to Russia for the G20 summit, POTUS has Carney express how "extremely disappointed" with the decision. We are a sleeping giant no more. We are a paper tiger and the Russians know it.
THANK GOODNESS THEY WON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH A PREMIUM INCREASE Congressional staffers won't see huge hikes in health insurance premiums next year because President Obama is making sure they will still have subsidies of up to 75% for their plans. Thank GOODNESS, I'd hate to lose the kind of talent that's helped create 16 trillion dollar debts.
THE NEW NORMAL SUCKS IF these jobs numbers are the new normal, it sucks. It will be nice when we get leadership who can unshackle our economy again. Too bad no suck leadership is anywhere in sight.
