It was truly an honor to have these World War II Veterans in the studio on the Anniversary of D-Day. Thank you to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the name liberty. Your courage and bravery exemplifies what makes our nation great!
WHAS 11'S JOE ARNOLD JOINS ME AT 9:35 He was at the Democrat's Wendell Ford Dinner and will give a full report. Spoiler Alert: A certain Congressman said, "Mitch McConnell sucks."
NO HEMP FOR YOU The Senate Farm Bill will not have an exemption for industrial hemp. The bill will be voted on with no additional amendments, so the hemp exemption is dead this year. I did some reading on the Farm Bill, which at this point is wildly misnamed. Claiming that farmers are getting rich from subsidies, Democrats want to cut subsidies to Farmers in the Farm Bill, while not cutting the Food stamp programs which make UP 80% OF THE TOTAL BILL. There will likely be a much different version of the bill passed in the House. From what I've read, the Democrats are doing what they normally do, which is find some egregious examples of rich and famous folks *coughTedTurnercough* who get farm subsidies to argue that farmers are getting rich off the taxpayers. So I did a quick check on Farmer salaries. I got, from the USDA website, that farmers make roughly $59,000 a year. Almost all of which is NON FARM income. Median farm income was projected to be -$2,799 for 2012. That's right. Even WITH the farm subsidies. That's hardly getting rich off the taxpayer. And large commercial farms with gross sales over $250,000 make up just 10% of all farms. Most farms don't even come close, with 60% of farms having gross sales of $10,000 or less. Big Agribusiness should be excluded from subsidies, sure. But to lump the rest of farmers with huge commercial farming operations is simply disingenuous. It's like using Paris Hilton as an example of every rich person. Another tactic favored by the War on Success Party.
I BLAME THE GUVNAH! If Governor Beshear had not been so hell bent on NOT doing a deal to re open Kentucky Kingdom two things would be true imho. First, the park would be open right now. Second, it wouldn't be in such bad shape. But for whatever personal issue, he desperately wanted to NOT deal with Ed, so here we are. Another lost year of revenue for the Fair Board. Luckily, they are rolling in dough, right? How else could they have forgiven a 5 million dollar debt the Arena owed them?
A BILL TOO FAR? Shelbyville is worried about adults providing booze and drugs to minors and letting them party at the adult's homes. So they passed a bill making that illegal. Except if you've ever been to a high school party that takes place at a kid's house whose parents are out of town, you've made the parents criminals. There is no exception for kid's behaving badly without parental knowledge and that is a mistake.
THIS PARK SCORE SYSTEM IS A JOKE I went and looked at the list of the cities who beat us out in this stupid Park Score from the Land for Public Trust. It's a joke. They count city parks of half a block as "parks" when our park system is far more useful to the way Louisvillians use parks than that. It's ridiculous.
REPUBLICANS WOULD DO WELL TO HEED THIS SUGGESTION What a great column on how to reform the GOP to reform how business is done in DC. I've been thinking lately that it is getting increasingly difficult to argue that the GOP is the party of big business when you think about how cozy the Democrats are with big business. No more or less cozy than Republicans, mind you, but very cozy. Who, at this point, is looking out for the average joe? No one. Tim Carney lays it out very well here. The GOP should pay attention.
SO WE ONLY LOST 10 BILLION ON THE GM BAILOUT This after the President lied about that. Perhaps he didn't have time to read the financial papers to find out the truth about his bailout, as that's how he apparently gets all his important information.
SO THAT MAKES SHOW PREP EASY. BUT THE BLOG MAY BE LIGHT. So sorry for the four of you who read the blog and don't listen to the show.

IT'S D DAY EVERYONE. And on this 69th Anniversary, I will be talking to some World War II Vets at 11.
THE AFTERNOON UNDERDOGS AT 11:30 We are getting a new morning host on our brother station Sportsradio 790 WKRD and the Dogs are announcing it this afternoon. We shall offer hints and speculation today.
ONE MAN'S TRASH This is cool. An old landfill site is going to be developed, hopefully, into a Botanical Garden. I like this.
ET TU, OBAMA? When the Bush Administration's metadata mining operation was exposed in 2006, people were fired up, me included. There was a huge outcry about Big Brother spying on it's own people without cause. I was one of those people. And now we find out that PrezBO is doing the same thing. Not cool. And if we, as a people, don't fight this violation of our 4th Amendment Rights, we should be ashamed and admit we've given up on the whole notion of the Land of the Free. Because it's become the Land of the Free Unless The Government Decides to Grab Your Phone Records Because They Want To. Great explanation of what, exactly, can be gleaned by the collection of metadata here.
MICHELLE MALKIN DISAGREES WITH ME And writes about the flip viewpoint of the NSA wiretap story and why she thinks the Obama situation is different than the Bush Administration thing. She makes good points but I am still concerned about any time government lead by anyone decides we don't need to honor the 4th Amendment.
AND COUPLED WITH THIS The Big Brother feelings get even stronger when you consider the electronic searches taking place at the border based on a hunch. I can actually see both sides of this issue. Just because you bring files in on a thumb drive instead of in file boxes, should that prevent border patrol from taking a look at what you're bringing in? And should they need probable cause to do so? Speaking in a strictly Constitutional sense, there should be probable cause. But what about non-citizens? Do they get 4th Amendment protections as well? And if the above is true, what's to stop a US Citizen from going overseas, filling up a thumb drive with child porn and then claiming 4th Amendment protections for that thumb drive when asked to share it? This is a much thornier issue to me than the above entry. But I still think if we don't err on the side of freedom, we've given up. Freedom comes with a price, and that price may be a thumb drive of child porn making it's way into the country, as repugant as that idea is.
DID SHE HANDLE IT "BRILLIANTLY"? Getting heckled is something most of you will never have to deal with. It sucks. And if you aren't particularly used to putting yourself in a position to be heckled, it can be unnerving. That being said, getting testy usually means the heckler won. And I think the heckler won here. Watch the video for yourself and see what you think. I've not seen a speaker handle a heckler this poorly since Michael Richards.
