Defending the Free Market: The Moral Case for a Free Economy By the Rev. Robert Sirico Is written so well and so conversationally it is a very easy read. Buy it on Amazon here.

BY THE NUMBERS BLOG This is my nerd friend David's blog about economics. You've heard him on the show and now you can read his stuff too!
BLUEGRASS INSTITUTE Free market solutions for Kentucky
MICHELLE MALKIN Great blog site with interesting links
BREITBART.COM Even dead he's still shaking things up from the grave
BLUEGRASS POLITICS If you are glutton for punishment
HOW IS IT THAT A FOUR YEAR OLD CAN DISRUPT AN ENTIRE MORNING WITH SUCH LITTLE EFFORT? That is a rhetorical question as in introduction to an apology for this brief blog.
CONGRESSMAN THOMAS MASSIE at 10:10. We'll see what he thinks about the efforts to defund the NSA spying program.
ALISON COMES OUT SWINGING Alison Lundergan Grimes has released a video introducing her mulligan campaign announcement. In the video, she looks great, she sounds great, and she says that Mitch McConnell has been obstructing legislation that would be good for Kentucky. But then she lists things that have passed anyway. If you watch this video in a vacuum, it's very good. But when the follow up questions about what EXACTLY she disagrees with the President on, things will get tricky. Check it out yourself here.
WOW, RIP RIPPETOE PAYS ATTENTION After hearing complaints from EVERYONE about how long it takes to get into the Fair, and I'm guessing complaints about the price of parking, he's actually trying a solution. Free offsite parking with shuttles. We'll see how well it works, because I'm still ticked about not ever making it to the Pat Benatar concert.
AND THE 2016 PRIMARY BEGINS With Chris Cristie, who in his heart is an establishment guy I think lobs the first shot over the bow at Rand Paul. He calls Paul's dogged determination not to gut the Constitution "dangerous". This should be really, really fun to watch.
IS SILDA A STRONG SMART WOMAN TOO? Much has been made by people of Huma Adedin standing by her man Carlos Danger. But what of the other Democrat wife cuckolded by her husband, Silda Spitzer? She isn't playing the Good Wife. I'm guessing she will be given her privacy during this difficult time.
OMG...CAN'T...STOP...LAUGHING....They should have read the bill before they supported it. Yet another union is now saying they don't want Obamacare. And you won't believe who this union represents.
I'M HAPPY, HOW BOUT YOU? There have been many studies showing that people of a more conservative mindset are happier, and this latest one confirms that. I have a theory about why, one that is shared in this article. But I will expound.
SO IF YOU'VE NOT HEARD I am leaving WHAS August 9th to take over the morning show at 630 KHOW in Denver, Colorado. We will discuss briefly today and then I expect you all to buck up because we have a big day planned!
CONGRESSMAN BRETT GUTHRIE ON AT 9:35 A lot of people were disappointed when Rep. Guthrie decided to not run for Governor. I'll ask him about that and other stuff today.
HOMEARAMA! At 10, the Louisville Builder's Association is coming in to talk about what you can see this weekend at Homearama's last weekend.
THE AFTERNOON UNDERDOGS AND GREG GALLIETTE at 11:35. Maybe I'll have Tony Vanetti yell "SHOCK TOP" when Greg's on, just because.
THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT HEROIN ADDICTS When you've been reduced to stealing from churches, you know you need help. At least I hope they know they need help.
DO WE REALLY NEED A MOVIE LIKE THIS? New Zealand has banned a new movie starring Elijah Woods about a scalp collecting serial killer. Why did they ban it? It's shot from the killers perspective and officials say it invites vicarious participation in the gruesome murders. I'm always against censorship, but why in the world do we need a movie like this? Ew. And who goes to see this stuff?
WHY SOME ATHEISTS ARE THE MOST ANNOYING PEOPLE EVER Now they want to create atheist chaplains. Because there aren't enough oxymorons in the world. God forbid an atheist talk to a regular chaplain because some of that God believin' may rub off. And we can't have that.
DETROIT'S BANKRUPTCY WILL MOVE FORWARD IN FEDERAL COURT So the boot licking rulings sucking up to Obama will mean nothing as they were issued in State court. Detroit is going to be the canary in the coal mine for states like Kentucky with ridiculous pension situation. Watch it carefully.
DID YOU SEE THIS STORY? The KFC Yum! Center had some serious trouble making it's bond payments. And the account to pay the November payment may be empty. Tell me again how everything is coming up sunshine and roses? This House of Cards is gonna collapse.
TODAY AT 10:45 MATT BEVIN WILL BE ON THE SHOW Why? I think we all know what he's going to say. But this guy is interesting. And after I spoke with him yesterday, I am convinced that if anyone can beat McConnell in a primary, it's him. And judging from the activity coming out of the McConnell campaign, I'd say they have some concerns about him as well. Which is why the dirt is already flying. I'll ask Matt about the tax lien story being pimped in the press. If this is any indication of how this primary is going to go, this could end up being like watching someone run over a bunny with a tank. Not that Matt Bevin is a helpless bunny, but this is going to be ugly fast. Voters, if you want the negative campaiging to continue forever, keep rewarding it with your support. If not, perhaps you should demand discussion about the issues. But hey, all's fair in love and politics, right? This ain't tiddly winks. Find out more about Matt Bevin by clicking here.
DOCTORS TALKING ABOUT DRUG ABUSE After our conversation yesterday about the rise in heroin use in Kentucky I got a call from Dr. James Murphy about an event this Friday for doctors about safely prescribing pain pill medication. He's coming on to talk about the event and drug abuse in the Commonwealth from a doctor's perspective. Find out more about the ROPE Event by clicking here.
NICE RETURN IF YOU CAN GET IT So a judge ruled the city owes firefighters 12% interest annually on the money they were shorted by the City. The shorting aside, where did they get 12% as the rate of return, and what investment vehicle returns that every year? Because that's where I'm putting my money.
WHERE IS THE OUTCRY? Two years ago, a young black man was shot and killed in Algonquin Park after fight broke out and someone pulled a gun. There were witnesses. But yesterday the charges were dropped against the man accused of killing Cody Cantrell. Were they dropped because the justice system doesn't care about the death of a young black man? No. They were dropped because a key witness can't be found and witnesses have changed their story. This, after Roderick Thomas turned himself into police for the crime. But the man who killed him was black. So keep moving, there is nothing to see here.
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WAR ON WOMEN AND DECENCY Anthony Weiner is gross. And it remains to be seen whether New Yorkers are willing to forgive him sending nasty photos via text to yet ANOTHER woman AFTER the time when he got caught with his pants down while in Congress. Carlos Danger may find himself on the outside looking in as more and more people are telling him to pull out. Of the race. And off in San Diego, the Democrat mayor has even more women coming forward with stories of his piggish and degrading behavior towards women. War on women indeed! Not that you'd know he was a Democrat from this article, which conveniently never mentions his party affiliation. Compare that to CNN's coverage of the Mark Foley scandal. The first WORD in the story is Republican. But media bias is a made up thing, right?
IT WASN'T THE EVIL BANKS, IT WAS IRRESPONSIBLE HOMEOWNERS When you buy more house than you can afford, it's your fault. That's not what the Government wanted us to think when the housing market crashed. Democrats in particular rushed to point the finger at "predatory lenders" and did their best to make homeowners the victims. But let's see what's happening with some of those "victims" who got help from the government. They are defaulting at an alarming rate. Why? Because they bought a house they can't afford. Period.
