If sources around the UK program are to be believed, the open UK football coaching position is down to 2 candidates: Cincinnati's Butch Jones and San Jose State's Mike MacIntyre.  These 2 men have experienced success at their respective schools and have seen both of their teams in the Top 25 at different times this season.  But, what are the differences between the 2 coaches?  Both guys have coaches at their current schools for 3 seasons, so they each have had the same amount of time building their programs:

OVERALL RECORD
Butch Jones: 22-14
Mike MacIntyre: 16-21

OVERALL CONFERENCE RECORD
Butch Jones (Big East): 11-9
Mike MacIntyre (WAC): 8-13

PROGRESSION OF WINS PER SEASON (2010, 2011, 2012)
Butch Jones: 4, 10, 8
Mike MacIntyre: 1, 5, 10

RUSHING YARDS PER GAME W/ NCAA RANK (2010, 2011, 2012)
Butch Jones: 156.7 (58th), 175.0 (38th), 211.4 (25th)
Mike MacIntyre: 78.5 (122nd), 101.8 (113th), 124.3 (102nd)

Outlook: Obvious advantage to Jones here.  His teams consistently rush the ball well, and have only been getting better each season.  MacIntyre's offense skews towards the pass, although his team's average rushing yards per game have gone up in each of his 3 seasons.

PASSING YARDS PER GAME W/ NCAA RANK (2010, 2011, 2012)
Butch Jones: 260.7 (27th), 218.3 (72nd), 226.2 (66th)
Mike MacIntyre: 236.5 (47th), 276.8 (23rd), 327.5 (11th)

Outlook: And the passing game advantage goes to MacIntyre.  Jones preaches balance in his offense, and it shows.  But it means he doesn't put the ball in the air as much as MacIntyre's teams, which have developed into one of the Top 15 passing attacks in the country.

POINTS PER GAME W/ NCAA RANK (2010, 2011, 2012)
Butch Jones: 27.1 (60th), 33.5 (29th), 30.7 (50th)
Mike MacIntyre: 16.7 (117th), 24.5 (82nd), 35.3 (30th)

Outlook: Once again, Jones show consistentcy in the production of his offense, while MacIntyre has shown improvement every year.  His 2010 offense was pathetic, and in 2 years, he has built it into an offense scoring more points than Jones.

POINTS ALLOWED PER GAME W/ NCAA RANK (2010, 2011, 2012)
Butch Jones: 28.0 (71st), 20.0 (20th), 17.2 (13th)
Mike MacIntyre: 34.7 (107th), 30.3 (87th), 21.4 (25th)

Outlook: Jones has made Cincinnati one of the best defenses in the country.  A Top 20 squad each of the last 2 seasons.  MacIntyre once again shows improvement in each of his 3 seasons.  A terrible defense in 2010 has turned into a very solid unit this season.
