Every year I name an All-Area College Basketball Team, the top five players in our listening area, regardless of position. I get listener input and name the team in the pre-season, then we update it when the non-conference games are done before compiling a final listing at the end of the year.

I do this to see how our expectations of who is "best" compare to the reality. Every year there are a number of players who are nowhere to be found in pre-season projections but who have outstanding seasons. The opposite is also true.

I talk on the show all the time about my biggest pet peeve with college refs: they calls fouls they cannot possibly see. You see it on lay-ups all the time... a trailing ref with no vision of the ball blows his whistle because he assumes a foul occurs. It drives me bonkers!

hey refs: IF YOU DON'T ACTUALLY SEE THE FOUL, YOU CAN'T CALL IT!

I found an example to illustrate my point from UK's NIT game against Robert Morris. I don't know if there was a foul on this play or not. But I do know that the ref who called it was completely screened and has no idea whether there was contact on the ball or the hand. It is impossible for him to see what happens yet he makes a call anyway. What a joke!

You'll have to excuse the hyper level of commentary here... I recorded the video in the heat of the moment... but I hope the point is made.

P.S.- I despise Duke but you have to pick with your head, not your heart. I truly hope I'm wrong about their game against Louisville.
