each year the Lexington Herald-Leader asks statewide media to list their "Kentucky Sportsman of the Year".

here was my ballot for this year:

1. John Calipari
- breaking UK's Final Four drought will make you #1 in this state any time
2. Bob Beatty
- winning a prep football National Championship out of Kentucky is almost unbelievable
3. Josh Harrelson
- quite simply, UK doesn't make Final Four without him. "Jorts" phenomenon is icing on the cake
4. Scott Davenport
- has won at every level with character and class
5. Kenneth Faried
- amazing college career + NCAA upset win. tribute to power of hustle and desire
6. J.J. Jude
- lots of kids have played HS football in Kentucky. to be all-time leading rusher is impressive
7. Bobby Rainey
- stellar year and led one of great turnarounds in college football
8. Danny Trevathan
- one of best individual seasons I've seen in a while. showed up every time
9. Kelly Wells
- amazing tournament run
10. Emma Talley
- 3 states titles are great, but sportsmanship on the one she lost gets her on the list
