About Me

I grew up outside Chicago but moved to Northern Indiana for my last two years of high school (go Wawasee Warriors!) then graduated from the University of Virginia in 1989 with a degree in Economics. My first job was as an investment banker in New York City but the lifestyle made me miserable and after a few years I decided I had to do what I loved = sports.
I was able to land a job working behind-the-scenes as a Production Assistant at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. After three years there, I got my first on-air TV job as the weekend sports anchor at the Fox affiliate in Albany, Georgia. Within six months, I was Sports Director. After a year doing that, I moved to the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia... where YES I played Augusta National -- twice! In 1999, I followed my wife to her hometown of Louisville and got a job as a Sports Anchor/Reporter at WHAS11 television, where I worked with Garry Gupton and Brad Knoop.
In 2002 I transitioned to a job doing promotional work for WBKI-TV here in Louisville. Remember "The Buzz"? That was me. WBKI was one of the top WB affiliates in the country and is now a part of the CW network -- check it out!
When Tony Cruise left "SportsTalk 84" to take over the morning show, I jumped at the chance to pursue a lifetime dream: hosting my own radio show. I ventured back into sports and I've been on the air at 84WHAS since July 2004.
I love my job and realize just how lucky I am!
The Family

My wife Carolyn was born and raised in Louisville and is the reason I'm here. She's a former news reporter for WAVE3 television, then worked as Public Relations Director for Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom until they closed the park. She handled media for Churchill Downs Entertainment and HullabaLou and is now doing freelance PR work, with clients including LDG Development (www.ldgdevelopment.com), Meat Bar, Churchill Downs and 502 Video Post.
My oldest daughter Madison (10 1/2) is a non-stop blast of energy, vocabulary and socializing.
My youngest daughter Lucy (7 1/2) is the sweetest child in the universe, at least in my biased opinion.

My Ballot For The 2010 Kentucky Sportsman Of The Year

* Billy Kennedy just missed the top 10
* no Zenyatta - one race in Kentucky isn't enough... and she didn't even win it!
starting from the bottom...
10. Matthew Mitchell - the Elite 8 is one thing, but the Dougie gets him on the list
9. Calvin Borel - for winning on the track and fighting off it! that jockey fight was insane
8. Pearse Lyons - what a HUGE economic impact he had on the state
7. Bobby Rainey - 3rd in the nation in rushing deserves serious respect
6. Jim Host - "driving force behind Arena" is an understatement. should get 90% of the credit/blame
5. Randall Cobb - a superstar on and off the field... if only he had gotten the ball more in crucial times
4. John Wall - represented UK basketball with amazing skills on the court, class and composure off it -- wish he had a little more personality but doing a good job handling the hype
3. Rajon Rondo - one of the NBA's best point guards. playoff superstar then follows up by leading the league in assists this year. sky's the limit
2. Charlie Strong - unreal turnaround using huge numbers of true freshmen on defense. made UofL FB relevant again immediately. wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
