Obama and Romney leave campaign trail for more debate prep. It’s cram time. President Obama and Mitt Romney took a break from the campaign trail Sunday to prepare for tonight’s high-stakes second debate. The faceoff at Long Island’s Hofstra University will be Obama’s chance to bounce back from his lackluster showing in the first debate - or for Romney to solidify the momentum he gained. Obama’s advisers are promising he’ll be more energetic and ready to lock horns with his rival. “He is going to make some adjustments,” Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said on “Fox News Sunday.” The campaign has said Obama’s poor performance during the Oct. 3 debate was simply the result of Romney’s flip flop on previous campaign platforms on taxes, education and health care. Axelrod said that Obama - who was surprisingly passive during the first back-and-forth - intends to point out the discrepancies this time around. “Certainly the president is going to be willing to challenge him on it,” Axelrod said. Romney senior adviser Ed Gillespie predicted a second-round win for his candidate - no matter how fired up Obama is.
