The Presidential Inauguration will be held in Washington DC today. A week of festivities will include the Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony, Inaugural Address, Inaugural Parade and numerous inaugural balls and galas honoring the elected President of the United States. The official theme for the 2013 inauguration is "Faith in America's Future," commemorating the United States' perseverance and unity, marking the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and the placement of the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol Dome in 1863. An estimated 1.8 million people attended the 2009 Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama, a record breaking number for any event in the nation's capital. Where will this inauguration rank from a historical standpoint? With Tony is partner at Ketchum PR and Presidential Historian, Nick Ragone.  You can also read Nick's piece on the President's speech today here.

Why inaugurations are laggards—Steve Friess—Photography existed for 40 years before someone snapped the first image of a president being sworn in when James Buchanan was inaugurated in 1857. Radio was around for a quarter-century before Calvin Coolidge made the first live broadcast of the presidential oath. Even this year’s first—an inaugural smart phone app—arrives nearly a decade after the iTunes app store opened. Inauguration Day has more often been an affirmation—rather than a harbinger—of the technological innovations of the era. With Tony this morning is Politico's Technical Steve Friess
