Welcome to the "Producer's Corner" where you'll find news and notes from Morning Show Producer Scott Fitzgerald.
You’ve put answering it thinking there’s still plenty of time. Now you’re at the point where you have to find a solution. This is Scott Fitzgerald and what am I talking about? How are we going to pay for Christmas this year.
For those serving on active duty in the military (even you DoD civilian contractors) I may have the solution. A Navy Federal gorewards credit card. With a Navy Federal GoRewards credit card you earn points for travel, gift cards or even merchandise (which means more Christmas presents for this year or even next). But here’s what separates Navy Federal from the others. If you sign on now and spend $1,000 Navy Federal Credit Union will GIVE you 15,000 additional points!
For those serving our military why Navy Federal? Because they’ve been serving the military for 80 years now and have amassed over 4 million members (to include yours truly). Any member of ANY branch is eligible for membership, but you have to join while on active duty.
You can visit navyfederal.org or (for our neighbors near Ft. Knox) you can visit the local branch NEAR Ft. Knox at 137 E. Lincoln Trail Boulevard in Radcliff/
Navy Federal is financially solid and Federally insured by the NCUA.
From CBS News' Mike Lyons on recent posturing by President Obama to combat a new N. Korean missile threat (STORY HERE):
Put this on the top of the "bad ideas for today" list. Aside from anti-ballistic missile technology being fundamentally destabilizing and causing your enemies to accelerate and improve their technology and tactics, we have also just elevated the North Korea nuclear missile program to a higher threat then before. This from a country that has never even had a successful launch of a conventional rocket, without even thinking about how they would weaponize it to then deliver it to our shores. We are going from 30 to 44, a whopping 14 more sites, and it's this that will make us all sleep more soundly at night. Here's an idea - improve the defenses of our commercial air fleet from surface to air missiles or MANPADS, which are weapons of mass destruction. Should a commercial airliner be shot down buy a surface to air missile, it would shut down the industry for weeks, paralyzing travel, bankrupting airlines, and instilling fear in everyone. Today's move plays great for politics, but in reality only makes the world more unstable." - Mike Lyons (CBS News Military Analyst)
He joins Tony to talk about it this morning
Applying for benefits under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul could be as daunting as doing your taxes. The government's draft application runs 15 pages for a three-person family. An outline of the online version has 21 steps, some with additional questions. Seven months before the Oct. 1 start of enrollment season for millions of uninsured Americans, the idea that getting health insurance could be as easy as shopping online at Amazon or Travelocity is starting to look like wishful thinking. At least three major federal agencies, including the IRS, will scrutinize your application. Checking your identity, income and citizenship is supposed to happen in real time, if you apply online. That's just the first part of the process, which lets you know if you qualify for financial help. The government asks to see what you're making because Obama's Affordable Care Act is means-tested, with lower-income people getting the most generous help to pay premiums. Once you're finished with the money part, actually picking a health plan will require additional steps, plus a basic understanding of insurance jargon.
