Welcome to the "Producer's Corner" where you'll find news and notes from Morning Show Producer Scott Fitzgerald.
You’ve put answering it thinking there’s still plenty of time. Now you’re at the point where you have to find a solution. This is Scott Fitzgerald and what am I talking about? How are we going to pay for Christmas this year.
For those serving on active duty in the military (even you DoD civilian contractors) I may have the solution. A Navy Federal gorewards credit card. With a Navy Federal GoRewards credit card you earn points for travel, gift cards or even merchandise (which means more Christmas presents for this year or even next). But here’s what separates Navy Federal from the others. If you sign on now and spend $1,000 Navy Federal Credit Union will GIVE you 15,000 additional points!
For those serving our military why Navy Federal? Because they’ve been serving the military for 80 years now and have amassed over 4 million members (to include yours truly). Any member of ANY branch is eligible for membership, but you have to join while on active duty.
You can visit navyfederal.org or (for our neighbors near Ft. Knox) you can visit the local branch NEAR Ft. Knox at 137 E. Lincoln Trail Boulevard in Radcliff/
Navy Federal is financially solid and Federally insured by the NCUA.
Fewer than one in four Americans (24%) have enough savings to cover at least six months' expenses, according to new research that Bankrate.com announced. Exactly half have less than three months' expenses saved up, and 27% have no emergency savings whatsoever. I've pasted more information below, along with the results from Bankrate.com's June 2013 Financial Security Index. With Tony is Senior Financial Analyst with bankrate.com Gred McBride
President Barack Obama flies to Tanzania today, the last stop on a weeklong tour of Africa. Obama will meet with Tanzania's president and then with business leaders from the U.S. and Africa to talk about increasing trade. He'll be in Tanzania the same time former President George W. Bush is there for a conference on African women. There's no word if they'll meet, but their wives are teaming up at a Tuesday conference on women's education, health and economic empowerment. CBS News' Peter Maer is in Dar es Salaam and talks with Tony.
Protesters seeking to force Egypt's president from office were gearing up Monday for a second day of demonstrations, a day after millions poured into the streets of Cairo and cities around the country in a massive display of anger and frustration with the Islamist leader. At least 10 people were killed during Sunday's protests, five of them in provinces south of the capital Cairo. Activists said five more were killed outside the national headquarters of President Mohammed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, where supporters of the Islamist leader barricaded inside opened fire on protesters pelting the suburban villa with rocks and firebombs. A fire broke out in the heavily fortified building. With Tony is Edward Yeranian n Cairo
